Keepsake Box
(2018)

Solid sapele construction with maple corner splines and felt lining. Sapele and white ash lid.

Dimensions:
7” W x 9” L x 3” H
The box has 9 partitions, each 1.5” deep with a felt-lined floor to keep delicate objects safe.
CAD was used to mock up the assembly and choose wood patterns for the lid.
Partial assembly diagram. The dividers are made from 1/8” thick strips that slot into the side panels and intersect through cross halved joints.
The majority of the box was made using a table saw, however a few details, like the slots for the dividers, were done on a Bridgeport mill.
Grooves for the corner splines were cut with a table saw and filled with Maple inserts that were then trimmed flush to the side panels. Aside from serving as a nice visual detail, the splines make for a stronger miter joint by adding additional long-grain to long-grain glue area.
All surfaces of the box are finished with a urethane gel topcoat.
